Taylor Swift made history at the Teen Choice Awards as she took home the very first icon award. On Sunday night, the singer talked about gender equality and her love for her fans as she took to the stage to accept the huge honour, which was presented by the cocaptain of the US Women's National Football Team Alex Morgan. She also announced her new single, "Lover," out Aug. 16.
"I want to talk to the fans for a second. You make me so happy. You make me laugh everyday online. I love meeting you. I love loving you. You are the most generous people. Thank you for giving me the life I have," she said while holding the award adorned with photos of her cats. "This is a really proud moment for me."
The special award comes just a few weeks before the release of Swift's seventh studio album, Lover. While the singer has kept details about the album pretty under wraps, she recently let a few dedicated Swifties listen to the album for the first time during her exclusive secret sessions. Seeing how much Swift has evolved as an artist in the past 13 years, we certainly can't wait to see what she throws at us next.
